Bridges out of Poverty is an innovative initiative embraced by Mesa County to help people better understand the differences between economic classes and how they perceive the world and interact with the world around them. Mesa County has adopted this platform in a collaborative effort to reduce poverty in the Grand Valley.  Local service agencies, non -profit organizations, and area businesses have joined together, combining  resources to combat poverty in our community.  Bridges out of Poverty in Mesa County has formed a steering committee of more than 30 organizations that are committed to looking at poverty in a new light and creating and redesigning programs to better serve our community.

Life is Different Here

“IF YOU DIDN’T GROW UP IN POVERTY, you may be unaware of the “hidden rules” that govern many aspects of life for the poor. People in poverty are often in survival mode, where the future holds no promise, and support systems taken for granted in middle class and wealth are nonexistent. If your business, agency, or organization works with people from poverty, only a deeper understanding of their challenges—and strengths—will help you partner with them to create opportunities for success.”
